just in case you hadn't already noticed, i put put up the photos from the past few weekends : bishop was awesome. the weather was perfect. brian and i spent the first day at owen's river gorge, did a few warm-ups, including a spectacular 10b, and then got on towering inferno. the first pitch, a 150ft 5.11a traverse, was nothing short of amazing. the second pitch, a 5.11a face with a crux bulge, totally pumped me out. we got up the third pitch and decided to bail on the last two as the sun set on the other side of the gorge and the shadow caught up with us. the next day we bouldered at the buttermilks in the morning, and then hit the happy's in the afternoon. good times.

the previous weekend ariel and i visited dan browne over in merced. he showed us all the local dive bars, 80s cover band in full effect. we went out to the grotto to climb, but it was too wet, so we just hung out. on the way back we checked out this old river dredge from the gold-rush. it was cool!

finally, the weekend before that, neumann, collins, rex, ariel and i went down to a bouldering competition in fremont. it was also a 70s costume contest. so neumann, collins and i offered our best rendition of the '75 Nose in a Day first ascent team of jim bridwell (myself), john long (collins) and the other guy, i mean billy westbay (neumann). we did an awesome job, and the judges agreed, so we won the costume portion of the comp. we also did pretty well in the climbing part! alejandro placed first in the intermediate category, and in advanced collins placed 3rd and i placed 5th. the best part of the comp was when hans florine (who just set the speed record for the climbing the nose in a little over 2.5 hours) commented, "man, you guys are so right on, i gotta get a photo with you!" indeed he did. he's the blonde guy on the right in some of the photos, for those who don't climb. it was great fun!
